CIDADE LUZ - "City of lights"
CIDADE LUZ is a personal journey where the lights that cross my path become reflections of what inspires, guides, and transforms me.
It all began in Paris, the starting point of this series and an eternal symbol of illumination – a city where nighttime lights tell stories on every corner. There, I realized that light is not just functional but narrative: from shop windows to neon signs, every glow is an invitation to see the world with renewed eyes. At the same time, my connection to Manaus, the “Paris of the Tropics” – one of the first Brazilian cities to have electric power – rekindled childhood memories. Like Paris, Manaus carries within its essence a unique light that bridges the ephemeral and the grand.
With this in mind, I began to explore the distinctive luminance of each city I visited. The lights I encountered – whether neon signs in hidden alleys, illuminated facades, or pedestrian crossing signals – became the raw material for my art. Through the technique of light painting, I play with camera movements to transform fleeting moments into eternal images. I’ve always been fascinated by this sense of movement: capturing the fluidity of light and immortalizing it with my signature colors – blue and orange – creating an identity that is both personal and universal.
Many times, the lights I came across weren’t originally blue and orange. By altering these images, I was able to integrate them into my visual language. In doing so, I played with concepts of repetition, alignment, and composition, allowing the lights of the cities to become part of my own artistic reflection. This process is both technical and emotional: replicating colors, reconstructing scenes, realigning perspectives – each step is a way of exploring how light can express more than what it illuminates.
CIDADE LUZ is not just about visible light but also what it symbolizes: our own capacity to shine, to find beauty in the simple glow of a street sign, or in the reassurance of a pedestrian crossing light. It is a celebration of the fleeting and the lasting – of the light that guides us, the stories we build through each journey, and the inner light we carry within.
This series is an invitation to slow down and see the beauty in the small details. Perhaps, in a simple beam of light from a neon sign, you’ll find reasons to smile, recall memories, or rediscover your own inner light.
